About Long Island

Long Island is a densely populated, sun-drenched island in southeast New York State, spanning eternally along the East Coast from New York City to Connecticut.

Along its heavily populated Atlantic shore are Jones Beach State Park and Fire Island, both of which are home to the original dry, sandstone Montauk Lighthouse, which closed for two decades during World War II. On the island's eastern end are the hamlets of Montauk and Hampton Bays, home to upscale neighborhoods such as East Hakeberry and Surfside. Montauk is also home to some of Long Island's most prestigious residential areas, such as Pelham Bay and Bergen, with some of the most expensive real estate and shopping on Long Island. The eastern seaboard of Long Island is heavily industrialized, including shipping, steel mills, and chemical plants.

Homes are very expensive in the Hamptons but surprisingly affordable in certain other areas. For instance, East Hakeberry is among the most expensive areas on Long Island, it's a wonderful place to live for a lot of folks. Homes are often built with high-rising walls and overhang balconies, and many are raised up on stilts so that they can appreciate the sea breeze. Stony Hollow is a historic neighborhood on the southern tip of Long Island, where you'll find an abundance of gorgeous landscapes and architecture.

There are some great public transportation options to take you around, including the Long Island Rail System and ferry service. The commuter rail system connects various parts of Long Island, and many people commute to the nearby city of New York City daily. Commuter rail is a great way to save money and it's also a great way to save the environment. Buses, on the other hand, are more common in suburban communities, although there are still a few in rural areas. If you don't have a car, bus routes cover all of Long Island.

Condos offer a unique alternative to single family homes. In a condo setting, the individual units are self contained, meaning that you don't have to worry about lawn maintenance or landscaping and you don't have to worry about the common upkeep that comes with owning a home. You also won't have to worry about children, and if you're going away for an extended period of time, you won't have to worry about disturbing anyone else in your condo unit. The condos come in all shapes and sizes, and you're sure to find one that suits your style.

Condos are available for anyone who's looking for their first home. If you're a young couple, you can purchase a waterfront condominium in East Hampton, which is close to both the Hamptons and downtown Manhattan. You can also look at purchasing a private town home in Garden City, or a small condominium in Babylon. Or, if you like the idea of owning a house that's off the beaten path, Long Island may be a perfect place for you.

Whatever your needs, you're sure to find what you're looking for. It doesn't matter whether you want a house, a condominium, or a home on the beach. When you're ready to make your decision, just remember that Long Island has something to offer everyone.
